Our company "Creating Science" was founded in 2002 by lead presenter and curriculum developer Dr. Joseph Ireland. Back then Dr.Joe had just left his life as a high school science teacher in order to seek out a method to make science education fun and effective for students. Since that time, he has received a doctorate in the philosophy of science education, making him a real scientist. Having lectured in science at QUT, and presentations at ECTA and CONASTA, we have the latest evidence based pedagogy to share with you!
Here at Creating Science we know science can be more than the amazing fun 'wizz bang' experience we all know and love, but also a way of thinking; a key to the future not only for our future scientists but for everyone! As Dr Joe is fond of saying: “Science can do so much more than just entertain you with coloured fire and thunderous explosions. Science will confront your assumptions, expand your comfort zone, enlarge your world – Indeed science, correctly performed and properly understood, Creating Science going to blow your minds!”

About Dr. Joe

Dr. Joseph Ireland, or Dr. Joe as he is more commonly known, contains a legendary passion for science that goes beyond merely “blowing things up!” He regards science as a unique and powerful tool in the quest for knowing. Dr Joseph Ireland began his career as a high school science teacher until it drove him insane, so he escaped to the comparative sanity of being a touring science specialist, including disability behaviour support and sessional lecturing at CQU! He has a doctorate in the philosophy of science education from QUT, specialising in what teachers mean when they say they’re encouraging students to learn by asking questions.
Dr. Joe and the team at Creating Science ultimately strive to entertain and empower the youth of today with more than just the gift of scientific knowledge; but with an understanding of how science works, how to recognise what is and what isn’t science, and how to do use science for themselves. |
Biography
|
Dr Joseph Ireland grew up in Victoria, studying at Melbourne High school, then serving a mission for the LDS church to Italy, Rome, 1994-6, before getting a Science (psychology) degree in 1996. In 2001 he began his career as a high school teacher of maths and science, but soon escaped to begin his own business of touring educative programs.
"Dr Joe" has taught and performed a wide diversity of settings; from being a floater in kindergartens, to a lecturer in Science, Technology and Science at QUT. He has taught in settings as diverse as outback Australia, to several major cities - from remedial maths, to tertiary philosophy. He now lives and works from home with his perfect wife and three amazing daughters. Having lived a lifetime of asking 'why' at some of the most inappropriate times, Dr Joe feels he has accrued some of the most amazing answers to many of lives unanswerable questions; though science, faith, and learning important life lessons in the school of hard knocks. He deeply enjoys this opportunity and privilege to share and deepen, debate and disagree, with any sincere person with a question. He now works in Brisbane, Australia, to bring quality educational and entertaining science and philosophy programs to children, teachers, and the general public. |
